The Equip a Woman Foundation was birthed in the year 2014, as a move to emancipate the most oppressed and down trodden of women in our societies. The mother organisation, The Prayer Relay Movement’s leadership team is very passionate about this cause. As such we are actively working to grow our reach and impact more and more women worldwide. We are here to empower women.
There are multiple areas in which society has actively oppressed women. Although the last few years have seen a lot of improvements, there is still a lot that can be done to level the playing field. One such area is education. In some developing countries, educating the girl child is never seen as a necessity. For the most part, this leaves the girls confined to the kitchen, with little to no room to dream. This will lead to marriages that are often unfulfilling and at times even forced ones. With no means to provide for self, most girls will find themselves at the mercy of the breadwinner, who can be an abusive man. This is not to say that this is always the case. However, if this was your own daughter, would you not want to afford them the option?
We are of the firm belief that money should not be an object to getting basic skills that can help you achieve greater things in life. Everyone deserves a basic education, it is a right. As such we work to source funds and allocate them to girls in need of such help.
In too many instances, the march to globalization has also meant the marginalization of women and girls. And that must change.-Hilary Clinton
Due to the unfairness of the playing field, it is often much harder for a woman to get access to funds that may be necessary to develop a business idea or to grow a small business. We are always looking for ways to make these funds available to women who are capable of making the most of them.
Women are the largest untapped reservoir of talent in the world – Hilary Clinton
In case you have begun to wonder, we have no affiliation to Mrs Clinton or any other political parties. We however share the belief that she has, as quoted. Our goal is to fuel women to also realise how much of a reservoir of talent they are. A lack of self-belief can be a hindrance to achieving what you aim to. After all you can only aim for the sky if you would dare to look up to it.
We want to help empower women to find who they are, decide what they want to do, and most importantly realise that they can achieve it. There are still obstacles in the way of women achieving things in various fields, but we want to help break through these one after another.
Since the dawn of time, it has been men who have been going out to bring meals on the table while the women have been expected to equip the children. Today women also bring the food to the table in many cases. What is ridiculous is the fact that as a society we have always demeaned the ones who have raised our leaders. We have demeaned the women who have raised presidents, doctors, nurses, kings, business moguls. We do not give them a platform to develop these gifts that they obviously have, as they have consistently shown by birthing and raising greatness. It’s a new day, it’s time for a change. We cannot continue to be tolerant of such barbaric ignorance. It’s time we equally empower women, as we have always done men.
